Extensive research has been conducted by scientific professionals around the world and new information about Functional Proteins continues to surface. Click on the heading to see listing of Functional Protein research conducted by application over the past twenty years.

Globulin protein is defined as containing a minimum of 40% immunoglobulin G (also known as IgG) by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). As a reference point, AAFCO requires plasma to contain a minimum of 15% IgG and serum globulin to contain a minimum of 20% IgG. Immunoglobulins are one important component in an animal's complex immune system and response. All of APC's plasma, serum globulin and globulin protein products contain the required levels of IgG.

Functional Proteins are proteins that do more than just provide nutrition; they retain biological activity within the animal. Extensive research of Functional Proteins has been conducted as they relate to possible gastrointestinal, respiratory and other effects. Yes. Since the original regulations that restricted feeding of ruminant materials to rumiants, blood and plasma proteins have been exempt. The United States Food and Drug Administration has NEVER banned the use of blood, plasma and fractions from being fed to ruminants. The Final Rule 21 CFR Part 589.2001 is available to view on the FDA web site at:

For Aquaculture: high protein content gives nutritionists
room in the feed formulation for other ingredients such
as fat. For Swine and Poultry: amino acid profile that is very suitable
for pig and poultry diets. For Ruminants: substitute for ruminant escape protein. It is
very consistent in rumen escape value and subsequent
digestibility.

Besides the source of plasma - there aren't any. Numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate the quality of bovine plasma to porcine plasma. The results have not shown any significant difference in performance, quality, or bio-safety of the two products.
